Spirit Quest Outreach
Do you long for inner peace and transformation?
Has your experience of religion been more negative than positive?
Are you troubled when religion is based on fear more than love?
Do you find more grace in the search for meaning, in questions rather than answers?
Then you may find Spirit Quest helpful. Spirit Quest is a community of people seeking to draw deeper into the Spirit of Christ through discussion and contemplative prayer. Regardless of your religious affiliation or background, you are welcome to be part of this quest. Come and experience the difference Spirit Quest can make in your life. Casual dress - come as you are.
Spirit Quest will be of interest to:
• People with little experience in organized religion.
• People who have been de-churched, i.e., have felt alienated from
Christianity for one reason or another.
• People who are dissatisfied with fundamentalism and are looking
for an alternative understanding of faith.
• People who are interested in contemplative prayer and meditation.
• People who are interested in the study of contemporary Christian
theology and spirituality.
• People who are concerned that religious extremism has been harmful
to families, society and has been an obstacle to peace.
The theological emphasis of Spirit Quest will be a relationship with God through Christ, as well as personal and societal transformation. Questions? Email: Pastor Robert Kippley at rkippley@yahoo.com.

Christian Meditation
Meditation is referred to by several names: contemplative prayer, centering prayer, quiet prayer, and reflection. It is nothing new to Christianity; however, many have lost touch with this ancient tradition. Its benefits include finding a deeper experience of God and inner peace where insight, intuition, and solutions to problems can present themselves.
Jesus spent long periods of time alone in meditation communing with God. Those seeking to follow Him also find themselves drawn to quiet prayer or meditation. Meditation has a deep history within Christianity within monastic walls and elsewhere. It involves a stillness of spirit and a stillness of body. Presently, a resurgence of mediation in the form of Centering Prayer is occurring. In this form of prayer, participants are taught techniques of emptying self of concerns and agendas and resting in the presence of God. A word symbolizing their desire for God is returned to when experiencing distractions. The main intent of this technique is to enter more deeply into the life of God through Christ under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church will be occasionally offering introduction to meditation classes. For more information, please call the church office.
